Valyria

Here is a draw by Alex Konat, of the Chapter 2 of Volume 5 of Fathom, that are the adventures of Aspen Matthews, I really loved the design and the colours of the cities of Muria, never the less, I did a little modification and changed the name of the city, and call it Valyria, and changed the colour tone to have a little more of red, than blue, because the city is adobe a submarine volcano. 

Because I don't have the means, like pencils, pens and colours, and of course, I not have a scanner to do the draw myself, never the less, the draw by Kolat is very similar to my visions of a submarine Valyria, because George RR Martin says that the doom of Valyria was based in the fall of Atlantis. Why not give the same fate? 

This idea is one of my many. What If scenarios? Because I always had the idea that the character Kal - El or Superman would have worked better in a universe of medieval fantasy or science fiction fantasy, than set in the real world, with real countries, and real world politics, Superman cant become truly an international hero when one his parts is still citizen of a country, I had many ideas to adapt the character.

One of my crazy ones, is when I was reading the New 52 Aquaman, and when I was surfing the internet someone say how powerful Aquaman had become, I began to wonder. What If Kal - El was the ruler of Atlantis instead of Arthur Curry? And I really loved the design of Atlantis in the New 52 comics, never the less, I wanted to create something similar but no the same, never the less, I had no the means to do it until I find the Fathom comics, and reach to this image, the original image was more blue and much more larger, but I modified quite a bit.

But in the end, I decided that I didnt wanted Atlantis, but a city similar to Atlantis, as because the Valyria come from the myths of Atlantis, I had this idea, the Valyrians didnt disappear, like the people of Atlantis, they had gone underwater, their dragons are death, but their city is still alive and still is feed by fire and "magic",  the whole city is over a submarine volcano, that give the city energy, the Valyrians adapted to live under water, and they developed a technology quite more advanced than the people of the surface.

I say before, I wanted to make a What If of Kal - El ruling Atlantis, but what would happen if his ships had fallen in this universe, and not even in land, what would happen if he is find by the underwater people, and his powers are powered by the bright yellow and orange lights of the submarines volcano. 

I liked this idea quite a bit, even that for some of you would sound really silly, hell, I even wanted to expand the idea that Valyrians were descendants of Kryptonians, that why they weren't quite humans as the rest of this universe, and developed a quite unhealthy obsession of eugenics, I wanted that my version of Kal - El be even more an outcast that he ever be, not defined by his high horse morals. Because is very hard to say that you are a foreign, an invader, a stranger when you a white Caucasian male with a very good pay job as a reporter in a mayor newspaper. If you really want to make an allegory of how immigrants feel when they are in your country, make the character a real outcast and not a KKK member pretending to be a black guy.
